Research

Dr. Audra Nuru’s research is rooted in the fundamental philosophy that the quality of our communication directly impacts our quality of life. Her work examines how meanings are co-created through everyday talk with others. Specifically, her research attends to the ways in which people communicate to construct identities, make sense of relational difficulty, and navigate periods of transition or contestation.

Dr. Nuru’s methodological approach is geared toward applying research findings to provide both scholarly and practical contributions. In addition to her forthcoming book, she has published in numerous peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Social and Personal RelationshipsJournal of Family Communication, Journal of Divorce & Remarriage, Journal of Intercultural Communication Research, Southern Communication Journal and Communication Studies.

Through her work as the Chair of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee for the International Association of Relational Research, Dr. Nuru engages in proactive and ongoing endeavors to promote multivocality in relational research as well as representation throughout the organization. She also serves on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Divorce and Remarriage, and is a member of the National Communication Association, the International Communication Association, and the International Association for Relationship Research.
